On the morning of July 6, 2016, Ledman Group held the press conference in Beijing to announce the news that Ledman had acquired the entire share capital of the A-League club Newcastle Jets. After the announcement of this acquisition, Martin Lee, founder of Ledman group, declared that Ledman would help Jet to enter ACL, import good football players and even make Chinese Derby in ACL games. In the meantime, Jets will officially implement its developing strategy in China and start to attract domestic investment which means we may see Chinese brands in Jets’ new jerseys in the coming new season.
It is the first time that overseas football clubs being fully acquired by Chinese capital. Hence, this news has made a huge impact on overseas football community and was reprinted by many Australia media who were eager to see Newcastle Jet, champion of A-League in 2008, to win this thing again. This morning, Football Federation Australia (FFA) CEO David Gallop attended the conference and spoke highly of Jets’ developing plan made by Ledman. He added that the club would be the bridge for further cultural exchanges between China and Australia and hopefully it can unlock football markets in both two countries.
Joel Griffiths also attended the press conference. This striker of Jets used to be a member of Beijing Guoan Football club and helped his team to become the winner of the Chinese Football Association Super League for the first time. He is very excited to come back to Beijing and enthusiastically introduced Hyundai A-League and splendid history of Newcastle football club to everyone.
In Q&A session, President and CEO of Ledman Group Martin Lee explained the commercial value of the Newcastle Jets in details. Compared with CSL and other European Leagues, Hyundai A-League adheres to the salary cap regulation and never downgrades any club which ensures fiscal health. Several clubs may gain profits by professional management and two or three of them will have the chance to play in ACL. Presently, some Chinese footballer plays for Australian clubs which may show us a special Chinese Derby in ACL games to come.
This press conference will be the starting point for the club’s development strategy. In the future, Jets will surely unlock the sports markets in both China and Australia by holding the dual meet, training young footballers, developing football tours and so on.
